In order for an audio system to truly only communicate what is being played by the source equipment, one must prevent the three forms of feedback unwanted environmental and electrical sources from being entered into the system. These unwanted sources are the three forms of feedback that are detrimental to true fidelity playback regardless of system cost, and so there has to be a level of science in setting up an audio system properly.
Sound waves eminating from your speakers and all the reflections within your room are actually fed back into your CD player or turntable and your preamp and are processed (again) with the signal. Hence your audio system is processing a lot of unwanted disturbances with your signal.
Sound waves are incredibly powerful and like to travel through air, liquids and solid objects. The solid objects relevant here are your floors and the audio rack shelving or what ever your equipent resides on. Mass loading is acommon misconception that many audiophiles have - in that building large structures to place turntables and cd players on etc will help reduce vibration. Mass loading anything actually stores energy and is again transmitted back into the source equipment and this is why spikes and solid feet do not work effectively - infact they are aiding the problem and not resolving it. Seismic vibration has to be either totally obsorbed or thoroughly disspersed by either a material or spring suspension system. This part of feedback is probably the hardest to work around and can be very complex; so we have opted for a couple of effective products here that are affordable and efficient.
There’s not a great deal outside of the manufacturer that can be done by a person to minimise the electrical feedback that is inherent by various degrees in most electronic audio equipment. What we can accomplish is a damening of the equipments case and by placing sensitive equipment such as Cd players and pre amplifiers ( in particualr all valve equipment) on these acoustic foam pads. Nowadays, most audiophiles are aware of the supporting materials influence (and the coupling to it) on the musical reproduction. Reason for that is the resonance response that all gear such as amplifiers, CD players as well as D/A converters are permitted to generate, causing coloration and masking of the musical reproduction in the frequency spectrum where the material and the coupling resonance appear.
